Richard Thomas Jefferies was born and educated in England, emigrating to Brisbane after his marriage in 1871. His first professional appearance as a violinist in February 1872 marked the beginning of a distinguished involvement with music: the establishment of the Brisbane Musical Union, formation of a family quartet, conductor of the South Brisbane Harmonic Society. He also founded the Brisbane Musical Union Orchestra, was organist of St John's Cathedral, St. Mary's Kangaroo Point and All Saint...
